         Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the Media Center

When can students visit the Media Center?

  • With a pass, students can visit the library Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

  • The pass should be signed by the teacher and have the current date, time, library or media center written on it. Teachers can request Media Center passes by contacting library staff.

  • Students can visit the Media Center during supervision/homeroom, during lunch, during classes, and at the end of the school day.

  • Students may visit the library individually, with a small group, or with a class.

  • Student are especially encouraged to visit the library during ELA/ESOL classes (an activity of the school’s Accelerated Reader Program). Students are also encouraged to visit the library during other classes/subjects.    


 How many books can students check out?

  • Students can check out two (2) books for two (2) weeks.

  • Students should check out books and demonstrate responsibility by taking care of the book.

What happens if the student loses or damages a book?

  • If a book is lost or damaged, check out privileges will be denied. When the book (s) are paid, the Media Center will issue a receipt and release the student’s record.


How does the Accelerated Reader (AR) Program work?

  • Students will check out minimum (at least) two books weekly on their Lexile/Star Reading Level.

    • Students may check out one (1) AR Book and one (1) book of interest.

  • Students will take AR test in classroom, Media Center, or Lab and strive for 85% mastery (score).

  • Students/Classes/Teachers will be recognized and awarded prizes throughout the term and at the end of year for demonstration of reading progress and success!
