Reading Programs - Community Connections

Reading is Important!

"Art of Reading 2020 "

An Incredible Partnership between the Bibb Co. School District, Schools, and Community

The Bibb Co. School District’s Media Services Unit, local school principals and Media Centers, AND Washington Library have teamed up to promote a reading program called, “The Art of Reading 2020”. The purpose of the program is to remind everyone faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community that reading is important and has benefits for everyone, particularly students.

Here are just a few reasons why everyone, including studentsshould read. Reading:

  • Expands the mind (give you more ideas)

  • Keeps the brain healthy (reduces brain diseases)

  • Increases creativity

  • Improves mental health

  • Improves concentration

  • Builds discipline (reduces the loss of focus and reduces the mindset to multi-tasking)

  • Provides a big picture of the world

  • Help people learn how to solve problems

  • Help people to distress (relax)

  • Help people to become better communicators and better writers

  • Helps people to learn how to improve in every area of life.

  • So much more!

Reading is a Win-Win!

When students read, everyone experiences a win-win situation:  student engagement, student academic success, and student personal success (Cullinan and American Library Association, 2000; Baines and International Society for Technology In Education, 2020) (University of the People, 2019).
